This week, we had the pleasure of speaking with Joachim Ackermann, a Sterling real estate investor client who now lives in Singapore. Earlier this year, he wrote a glowing, 5 Star Review of Sterling Property Solutions on Google. We caught up with Joachim while he was finishing a fourteen-day mandatory COVID quarantine in Singapore.
“A while back, I left New York for business reasons. I’m from Germany, but at the time, I was moving from Westchester County to Singapore,” Joachim explains. “I own a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom semi-detached house (condo) in Westchester County. It’s over 20 years old, so it needed some repairs. Through my personal contacts, I hired a property management company to rent out my house.”
As happens all too often with many real investors we speak with, the performance of Joachim’s property manager dropped over time. “I advise everyone to re-evaluate their relationship with their property manager periodically. Because I have a busy life, I ignored this problem for too long. Eventually, I ended up in a bad situation. The property was in disrepair, and I had no tenants.”
