Several years ago, I ran into the father of one of my son’s friends in the grocery store. Lee Spiegel and I had known each other for a while, but at that point we were casual acquaintances. We both live in the same town in Westchester County. Lee and I struck up a conversation about family and friends, but our chat quickly turned to property management. “Recently, a major storm blew through Westchester,” Lee says. “A large tree fell into one of my apartments and did extensive damage. Thank goodness the renters weren’t hurt. That’s the most important thing, of course. But I had a real mess on my hands. I thought for sure that it would take a couple of weeks or more to get a contractor lined up and all the repair work completed. I was wrong. Linda and her team had a contractor out there the next day! Within a week, all the repairs were finished, and the renters were back home in their apartment.”
We keep a list of contractors and maintenance pros at the ready. Often, and I know this is the case with Lee, when one of our contractors does work on a client’s rental property, they do more work for the client on their residence. Our goal is to ensure that everyone is happy – the landlord, the tenant, and the contractor.
